Positioned on what was once the foreshore of Wellington’s harbour, the ebb and flow of the tide is represented by the slow pulsing of dimmed in-ground fluorescent fittings in the boardwalk. All elements draw visitors to the park whilst symbolising the moment of arrival.
The lighting brief for this beauty therapy salon was to create an ambient space for the client to relax and provide sufficient task lighting for the therapists to work under.
In the treatment rooms, clients relax under a floating textile sheet on the ceiling, which conceals a dimmable fluorescent. Indirect light fills the space with a soft warm light and can be adjusted for intensity.
Wall mounted magnifying lamps are used for close up facial work and a signature pendant in the reception alludes to the European feel of the salon.
The Boathouse apartment on the waters’ edge in Wellington is a stunning space, designed and finished to a very high standard with incredible views of the harbour.
Contemporary chandeliers allowed for a striking play of light on the crystal at night, whilst capturing the sunlight, casting beautiful prisms of light during the day.
The apartment lobbies married the modern design with classic crystal chandeliers, giving this building a distinctively luxurious feel.
The design for this domestic house had to take into account the many existing light fittings that the client wanted to utilise from their own extensive collection.
In the living area a ‘wall’ of light was created using retro and classical fittings, complimented by the Louis Poulsen Artichoke pendant, and all controlled with a simple touch pad.
In the kitchen, glare free downlights provided task-lighting, whilst blue LED edge-lit glass shelves and backlighting from behind the fridge unit added interest to display areas. The overall effect was unique, dramatic as well as practical, reflecting the client’s personal style
Renderings produced in 3-D Max assisted the client in visualising the finished space and how the lighting design could work for the semi-commercial kitchen. A simple control system allowed for multiple ‘scenes’ depending on the time of night and the client’s preferences.
The lighting design complimented the large open-plan spaces, pitched ceilings and provided an interesting nightscape on the landscaped gardens and pool area.
The existing retail space required an updated lighting solution with a contemporary feel.
Indirect halogen lighting created a warm ambience, ensuring customer comfort and flattering skin tone.
Metallics and sequins sparkle and fabrics are enhanced under gentle warm white sources.
A whiter metal halide is used for the windows where impact is paramount and signature pendants highlight the personality of the store brand.
